Why Should the Eureka of Bamboo Affect Your Choices Too
More and more people are making the economically conscious decision to “go green”, to help save the environment. However, what a lot of them don’t know is that bamboo is one of the cheapest resources that leave very little carbon footprint and can be used for a lot of things, including: building bridges, houses, furniture, shades, clothes, fences, carpets and much more. Bamboo plays a huge role in the environment and to millions of animals and people.
Our environment is constantly being destroyed by deforestation, a continuously thinning ozone layer and diseases, and many people are unaware of the fact that bamboo can help in all of that. Not only is bamboo a great replacement for many types of wood, its ability to reproduce itself and balance carbon-dioxide and oxygen make it a valid reason to stop destroying other types of trees.
Everyone who wants to help preserve our environment, should start leaning towards buying Eco friendly bamboo products if available. When we talk about Eco friendly bamboo products, we don’t mean that other plants are harmful to the environment, but that what people want from these trees and plants is what proves to be harmful. Here’s an example.
Hardwood typically takes over 30 years to mature. Bamboo on the other hand, takes about 3 to 5 years to mature thanks to its swift growth rate. Moreover, due to its durability, bamboo requires no pesticides and harmful chemicals to thrive. It’s a plant that can prosper in many different climates and weather conditions all over the world and requires significantly less water than other plants.
Historically, bamboo has been one of the primary sources for paper and fabric production. Bamboo fabric is made from the pulp of bamboo grass, and the bamboo fiber is then made by pulping the grass until it’s separated into thin threads of fiber, which is later dyed and spun for weaving into cloth. It’s softness is similar to that of the silk.
Since the fibers are made without any involvement of chemicals, they’re incredibly round and smooth without any sharp spurs which can irritate the skin. This makes bamboo fabric hypoallergenic and is a popular choice among people who have allergic reactions to natural fibers like hemp or wool. Moreover, bamboo is anti-fungal and antibacterial, because it contains a bacteriostatic bio-agent known as “Bamboo Kun”, which allows it to naturally grow and flourish in the wild. And lastly, as aforementioned, bamboo is very breathable, meaning bamboo clothing can keep itself cool in the heat.
